Maudlin Pond Press... on Tybee Island
What will it cost to publish my book? That’s a good first question. For 2026 Maudlin Pond Press is charging $1500 to get it done. Shop around; it’s a deal. We give you one-on-one attention to get you from idea to printed copy. We will talk more as you get close to signing a one-year contract. (For a second book, it’s $1250. For a third book, it’s $1000.) How long does it take for MPP to publish a book and provide a printed copy to the author? Generally, it takes about six months from your first contact with us to having a book in your hand. Who will handle the steps of getting my book from concept to print? We will. We’ve done it before, and we will do it again for you. We are author-friendly and address all the steps (copy editing, proofreading, cover design, interior layout, print and eBook formatting, size and paper specifications, obtaining ISBNs for print and eBook, securing copyrights, etc.) from start to finish. Who will copy edit my book? We will. Thoroughly. How will I get ISBNs for the various versions of my book? We provide those for you, for both print and eBook. How will I copyright my work? We secure your copyright by uploading and registering your finished PDF with the US Copyright Office. You own the copyright and will receive the copyright certificate. Who will help with my cover design? We will. We have contacts with excellent artists and designers. Who will lay out my book inside the covers? Our fantastic in-house designer will work with you on your vision and preferences, whether your book is text only, or text with illustrations or photos. Your contract with us does not cover layout expenses because the amount of work between designer and author is variable. You will pay our in-house designer directly at her attractive hourly rate. Who will print my book? We use IngramSpark, a company that produces high-quality print-on-demand books. We have had a very successful partnership with them. Who will distribute my book? Again, IngramSpark, which has a global distribution network, brick-and-mortar and online. How should I price my finished book? We will advise you, looking at printing costs, shipping costs, retailers’ discounts, etc. It’s not too hard and can be revised and tweaked at later times. Who will market my book? We market it on our website and through our social media presence. You market it through your self-promotion, book fairs, lectures, etc. Who will ship my books to customers? We keep an inventory of your books and ship them as they are sold on our website. Online retailers such as Amazon do their own shipping. How do I get copies of my books to sell myself? We order them from IngramSpark and have them shipped directly to you. You get them for the printing cost plus the shipping cost plus a small MPP surcharge. That surcharge is $1 or 10% of printing cost, whichever is lower. The books you receive are yours to sell or give away as you choose. How much of my book’s profits does Maudlin Pond Press get? For any book sold through our website or delivered by IngramSpark to retailers we get 33% of the profit and you get 67%. Compare that to other publishers’ offers, and you will know just how reasonable and equitable Maudlin Pond Press is. When do I get my percentage of profits from sales of my books? We send you your share of the profits on a quarterly basis. How much of my book’s profits do I get for books that I sell directly? You keep all the profit for books that you sell directly. You have already bought them at cost (printing plus shipping) plus our small surcharge. How fast do you respond to my questions? Fast. Your book is important to us. We are excited about it. We strive to keep the process moving smoothly and professionally. Will I get any free author’s copies of my book? Yes, MPP will provide you with one printed copy as part of the proofing process.
