Maudlin Pond Press... on Tybee Island
Paul Bolster has done a lot of different things in his life. He's also been to school a lot. He holds a Ph.D. in American history from the University of Georgia (1972) and a law degree from Georgia State University School of Law (1986). He loves the details of Georgia's political history and spent 12 of his early adult years as a member of the Georgia House of Representatives. Paul acquired a life long love of the Tybee marsh paddling and camping along its meandering tidal streams. The historical setting in Their Wild Island is reviewed in more detail in his book Saving the Georgia Coast published in 2020 by the University of Georgia Press. He currently lives with his wife Livija in Atlanta, stays active in local politics, and is the political editor for the neighborhood newspaper, The Porch Press.
This book should be on the reading list of every young teenager in Georgia -- and everywhere else, for that matter. It is a story of a 13-year-old Atlanta boy, Jack, who spends -- reluctantly, at first -- his spring break with his widowed grandfather, Papa Joe, a seasoned outdoorsman on the Georgia coast. Jack comes to gain a deep respect for Papa Joe, who tells the story of how he and his two young teen-age buddies helped save the coast from an environmental disaster. In an easy-to-read, entertaining fashion, Their Wild Island's take-home message is this: You're never too young to advocate for just causes to save planet Earth. ~ Charles Seabrook, author, The World of the Salt Marsh
